First ensure that routers are turn off in your wireless environment that are not being used. Multiple routers might cause network interference and performance issues.
Move the router and printer closer together
If your printer is too far from the router, or Else there are objects in between the printer and router, the wireless signal might be too weak to make a reliable connection.
- Keep your printer and router closer, but not closer than 1.8 m (6 ft).
- Should not place any metal objects between the printer and the router, such as refrigerators, metal bookcases etc....
- Relocate your devices that emit radio signals, such as microwaves, cordless phones etc.,
- Compare the printer and the router IP address you are going to connect. If you found any difference, it typically indicates that the printer is not properly connected to your wireless network.
- Print a Network Configuration report from the Wireless -> Network Settings or Setup menu on the printer control panel. Steps to take the print report is differ by each printer model. If you want to go on with detailed steps, go to HP Customer Support. In the Search bar type your printer model, and then search for the document to 'print a configuration page' or 'print a self-test page' and get it.
- Now Locate IPv4 in the 802.11 Wireless section, and then locate the IP Address. This is the printer's IP address on the network.
- Compare the IP Address to the Default Gateway to determine if they are similar. When the first three octets (a number between 0 and 255) are 255 in the Sub-net Mask, ensure the first three octets in the IP Address must be the same as the first three octets in the default gateway.
- No need to Continue troubleshooting Steps If the IP Address is similar to the Default Gateway and your printer maintains the connection
- If the IP Address is similar to the Default Gateway but the printer does not maintain the connection, continue troubleshooting steps.
- If the IP Address is not similar to the Default Gateway: Restart your printer and router, then reconnect the printer to your wireless network. Print a new Network Configuration report, then re-evaluate the IP address. If wireless connection continues to drop, continue the troubleshooting steps.
